Match the nutrition data to the chicken you weighed. Weighed raw -> choose Raw. Weighed cooked -> choose Cooked and your preparation method.
This calculator consolidates individual serving-size estimates into one authoritative engine. Scale exact USDA FoodData Central records mathematically, deduct bone and refuse, or scale your own packaged food Nutrition Facts label.
The Central Tracking Rule
Weighed raw? Log raw. Weighed after cooking? Log cooked.
100 grams of raw chicken is not equal to 100 grams of cooked chicken. Water loss during cooking concentrates protein and nutrients by weight.

How the Chicken Breast Nutrition Calculator Works
The calculator starts with the weight of the chicken you measured. It scales the baseline 100-gram nutrient profile mathematically:
Calculated Nutrient = Source Nutrient × Multiplier
We do not recalculate calories artificially using generic 4-4-9 macro estimates when the source record provides analytical energy. This maintains exact consistency with USDA FoodData Central and FDA nutrition standards.
Why Do Different Chicken Calculators Give Different Numbers?
Most online discrepancies happen because websites mix raw and cooked states without disclosure. A 200-gram raw chicken breast has ~240 calories and ~45g protein, while a 200-gram cooked chicken breast has ~330 calories and ~62g protein because water loss concentrated the cooked muscle fibers.
What If My Portion Includes Bone or Skin?
If you weighed a whole bone-in breast (e.g. 320g) and left 80g of bone and cartilage on the plate, your actual consumed portion was 240 grams of edible meat (320g - 80g = 240g). Never apply meat-only macro multipliers to bone weight.
Cooking Spray, Added Oil, and Recipe Tracking
Plain Chicken: Requires zero added oil calculation.
Measured Cooking Oil: 1 teaspoon of olive or vegetable oil adds 40 calories and 4.5g fat; 1 tablespoon adds 120 calories and 14g fat.
Cooking Spray: Adds negligible calories for brief sprays (~5 to 10 kcal).
Our Data Classification System
Taken directly from USDA FoodData Central or official label.
Scaled mathematically from the verified source record.
Derived from reasonable cooking assumptions (e.g. uncertain spray oil).
Calculated by deducting bone and refuse from gross portion weight.
How We Source Nutrition Data
For generic chicken breast, our preferred primary authority is USDA FoodData Central (Agricultural Research Service). For packaged, canned, deli, or restaurant foods, we use verified manufacturer Nutrition Facts.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the chicken breast nutrition calculator work?
Enter the chicken weight, choose whether it was raw or cooked, and select the closest cooking method and skin state. The calculator scales the selected nutrition reference to your actual serving.
Should I enter raw or cooked chicken weight?
Enter the state you actually measured. If you weighed the chicken before cooking, choose raw. If you weighed it afterward, choose cooked.
Why are raw and cooked chicken calories different per 100g?
Cooking changes moisture and final weight. The same original chicken can become more nutrient-dense per 100 g after water loss.
How many calories are in 4 oz of chicken breast?
It depends on whether the 4 oz was raw (~136 kcal) or cooked (~187 kcal) and how the chicken was prepared. Use the calculator rather than one universal 4-ounce value.
How much protein is in 6 oz of chicken breast?
Raw and cooked 6-ounce portions differ: 6 oz raw yields ~38.3g protein, while 6 oz cooked provides ~52.7g protein. Select the correct food state to scale the matching reference.
Can I calculate 200g of chicken breast?
Yes. Enter 200 g and choose the state and cooking method. There is no need for a separate 200g chicken page.
Does the calculator include oil?
Only when you tell it to. The plain reference does not silently include arbitrary cooking oil.
Can I use a package Nutrition Facts label?
Yes. Product Label mode lets you enter the serving size and nutrients from the package and scales them to your actual portion.
Why does your calculator show a source?
Because nutrition values can differ by chicken state and reference. Showing the exact source makes it clear which food the result represents.
Is USDA FoodData Central the source for all results?
It is our preferred generic source. Specific packaged, retailer or restaurant foods should use current official product information when that better represents the food.
